Meet the Chef!
Neens from Ono Yum
Neens grew up in the island-style communities of San Diego. Far from Hawaii, but close to plate lunch, surfing and ukulele jammin, Neens is the creator of the Musubi Map and the I Love Poke Festival, both vehicles that reflect his passion for all things Hawaiian. He was raised on local-style home cooking thanks to his Mom, Gles, also known as the Filipina Betty Crocker. This recipe is one of Neens’ favorite dishes that he grew up eating, courtesy of his Mom. Thanks, Mom!
Recipe Details

2 slices Ham or turkey

1 stick Cheddar cheese (we used Horizon Organic Cheddar Cheese)

Dollop Mayonnaise and mustard, options

1 slice KING’S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Sliced Bread

Step 1
Using a rolling pin, flatten out one slice of bread. If you desire mayo or mustard, spread on bread now.
Step 2
Cut the cheese stick in half long ways.
Step 3
Place the slices of sandwich meat on top of each other. Then place the cheese stick on top of the sandwich meat and roll together keeping the cheese in the middle.
Step 4
Take the cheese and meat roll, place on the top edge of flattened bread and roll again. Then cut into slices at desired size.

This is a fun way to teach your child how to use chopsticks. You can buy “training” chopsticks at your local Asian market or online. You can also get really creative with your fillings. We like to use cream cheese, cucumber, hummus and more. Also, for our peanut butter and jelly sushi, click on the link now: http://www.kingshawaiian.com/recipes/peanut-butter-jelly-sushi/
