Pot Roast Melt

Recipe Details

2 pounds pot roast

1 medium maui or vidalia onion

2 cups Water

2 tablespoons onion soup mix

1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic

1 1/2 cups prepared brown gravy

salt and pepper to taste

16 slices of bread

butter or margarine as needed

16 slices of mozzarella cheese

salt and pepper to taste

1 loaf KING'S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread (slice each piece about 1” thick)

Step 1
put the roast in the crock pot on high (my roast was frozen) if thawed cooking on low should be fine
Step 2
add the water,onion soup mix,onion,garlic,salt and pepper
Step 3
cook overnite
Step 4
pull meat,discard the fat and add in the brown gravy to the meat
Step 5
simmer for 30 minutes
Step 6
spread butter on one side of each piece of bread
Step 7
lay the slices of bread butterside down on a griddle
Step 8
top each piece of bread with a slice of the cheese
Step 9
spoon on the meat and gravy to cover 1/2 of the bread slices
Step 10
top them with the remaining bread on the griddle and continue to cook till the bread is browned and cheese has melted
Step 11
remove and put on plates to serve


the sandwiches are crunchy due to the toasted bread so i cut them in half to make them easier to eat...i also had available toppings on a plate on the side so that each person could add them as they liked...i had sliced fresh avacado, alfalfa sprouts,sauteed onion,green pepper and mushrooms....but really any topping will work..the sky is the limit
