The holidays are upon us, and “baking season” is officially in full swing. As soon as Thanksgiving ends, our Christmas tree makes its appearance and I begin planning for my family’s Christmas Eve celebration. It’s always a packed house; filled with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins—and I look forward to it every year.
In our family, Christmas isn’t about the presents. We don’t go all out and spend tons of money trying to make each other happy; although we are always grateful for anything we do receive. Instead, we play games, we talk and laugh with one another and we eat.
Oh boy, do we eat! Everyone brings dishes to pass and sweets to share. We always end up with an amazing feast and more candies, cakes and cookies than we could ever possibly finish.
My family, like any family, has their favorite holiday treats—things that have become tradition. It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without grandma’s homemade bread, mom’s delicious fudge or Dorothy’s chocolate cookies; but no matter how much my family looks forward to these things, there is always room for another cookie on the plate.
This year—alongside my family’s favorites—a new cookie will make its debut, a cookie made with a few tropical ingredients and King's Hawaiian fabulous Sweet Rolls. This cookie looks like Christmas, but tastes like paradise!
I’m positive my family will love them, and I’m certain yours will too. Happy Holidays!
This recipe uses fresh King's Hawaiian bread crumbs, shredded coconut, macadamia nuts, and chocolate chips. The recipe is quite flexible, and you can substitute the coconut, chocolate chips and nuts with ingredients to better suit your family’s tastes.
