Preparation Cucumber – Put your sliced cucumbers in a small bowl. Salt cucumbers with kosher salt, using a spoon to mix and distribute the salt. This will extract water from cucumbers for a more crunchy cucumber. Let sit for 5 minutes and drain water from bowl.Add vinegar, sugar and chili flake (to taste). Mix thoroughly making sure ingredients are distributed well. Set aside in fridge.
Preparation Katsu Dogs – Let’s prep the hot dogs to be breaded! In a medium sized bowl, beat eggs with fork and set aside.
In a separate medium sized bowl, add flour. In a third medium sized bowl, add panko bread crumbs. You should have a total of 3 bowls with 3 different ingredients.
Take one hot dog at a time, drop in the egg wash, then in flour, back in egg wash and last into panko crumbs. Place breaded hot dog on a plate and set aside until ready to fry. Make sure you are covering the hot dog thoroughly through each ingredient.
It’s time to fry! Drop enough oil into pan to cover hot dogs. Heat oil to a mediumhigh heat. Fry hot dogs until golden brown.
Assemble hot dogs. Place katsu dog into KING’S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Hot Dog Buns. Add as many cucumbers as you like, placed just between the side of the hot dog and the bun. Then squeeze mayo and other sauces onto hot dog. You can use katsu sauce, teriyaki sauce or sriracha if you like it spicy. Last, sprinkle furikake over the top. Enjoy the crunch!
