Traditional Mexican Torta

  • 0 head of lettuce
  • 2 sliced roma tomatoes
  • 3 sliced avocados
  • 1.5-2 pounds grilled, pre-marinated carne asada
  • 6 slices of provolone cheese
  • Spicy Mayonnaise *
  • 2 cups mayonnaise
  • 1 can chipolte peppers
  • 6 KING'S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Mini Sub Rolls

Preparation

  • 1 In a food processor or blender, combine 1.5 cups mayonnaise and half a chipotle pepper until smooth. Taste. Repeat process, adding additional chipotle peppers to increase heat or adding additional mayonnaise to cool down, until desired flavor is reached. (We like heat, so we used about three chipotle peppers!)
  • 2 Generously coat inside of both top and bottom of KING’S HAWAIIAN Mini-Sub Rolls.
  • 3 While carne asada is cooking, prep as follows. On bottom halves of KING’S HAWAIIAN Mini-Sub Rolls, add shredded lettuce. On top halves of Mini-Sub Rolls, add cheese, then tomato slices, then avocado slices.
  • 4 Add cooked carne asada on top of lettuce. Fold together top and bottom halves of sandwiches. NOTE: if the carne asada is not tender enough to easily bite through, you will want to also slice the carne asada beforehand.
