Shaka Tea was founded in 2016 by O'ahu born and raised Bella Hughes and her husband, Harrison Rice. The inspiration was Bella’s love for her home and wanting to offer something healthy and authentic to customers beyond Hawai'i, while supporting her local community.

Māmaki based tea was the answer. Māmaki is an ancient, adaptogenic super leaf growing in only one place in the world–Hawai'i. The naturally caffeine-free Māmaki tea leaves are blended with herbs and botanicals, then placed in mesh sachets that are made from plant fiber and fully biodegradable. While supporting local Māmaki farmers, Bella and Harrison are also assisting the native ecosystem. Māmaki is the host plant for Hawai'i’s native and endangered pollinator butterfly, the pulelehua, also known as the Kamehameha butterfly.
