We think it’s time to rethink the sandwich. From sweet to savory, sandwiches are ripe for creativity between two pieces of soft, sweet Hawaiian bread. These vegetarian sandwiches are the perfect way to change up a sandwich routine. Whether you’re looking for healthy veggie sandwiches, easy meatless sandwich recipes or sandwiches you can make for lunch, there are plenty of delicious ways to enjoy a good sammy without the meat. Besides, who says sandwiches are for lunch meat?
Who doesn’t love classic Italian flavors between two pieces of bread? As the main event, these Zucchini Parmesan Sliders have panko breaded, perfectly seasoned slices of zucchini, fried until crispy. Once the zucchini is done simply cover with your favorite marinara sauce, or as we like to say “gravy”, grated parm and red pepper flakes and bake until hot, melty and marvelous.
While the zucchini bake, mix chopped garlic with melted butter and brush onto Hawaiian Dinner Rolls for our version of Italian garlic bread. Serve the zucchini on a toasty, garlicky bun for these veggie, Italian sliders.
BBQ Portobello Hawaiian Burger
Craving that savory burger flavor but staying away from meat? This vegetarian burger recipe will check all the boxes without the beef. Using a BBQ Portobello mushroom for a “meaty” alternative and umami flavor, this burger is hearty and sure to fill you up.
Start by marinating the Portobello in basil, garlic and olive oil for 20-30 minutes to soak up all the flavor. Grill it up and keep warm in foil while you bread and fry – yes, fry – a sweet slice of pineapple. When you have the sweet and savory elements of the burger ready, stack high on a burger bun with onion, tomato, lettuce and BBQ sauce and dig in!
Chocolate Marshmallow and Strawberry Panini
Just because it’s a vegetarian sandwich, doesn’t mean it has to be healthy. This desert panini is a nice, sweet treat you’re sure to enjoy. Using original sweet rolls, this panini is slathered with chocolate hazelnut spread, marshmallow fluff and sliced strawberries and squished to perfection in a panini press for a melty dessert sandwich. Don’t have a panini press? Use a frying pan and spatula to toast and melt this “vegetarian” sandwich and get the same gooey goodness.
Caprese Veggie Burger Sliders
We love the flavors from a fresh caprese salad. This burger slider is inspired by caprese to make a vegetarian “burger” patty. Using Nature’s Path Qi’a Original Flavor, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, basil and garlic to make the patties, this burger is packed with flavor. Create the patties and grill up like normal and top with mozzarella and pesto on a KING’S HAWAIIAN Dinner Roll for a bite of caprese in a veggie sandwich form, perfect for parties.
Have some fruity fun with this vegetarian sandwich. Using traditional sliced Hawaiian sandwich bread, this colorful fruit sandwich delivers a light, fresh flavor. Simply slice up kiwi, peaches and strawberries and layer with whipped cream. This simple sandwich is pretty to look at and even better to bite into when you’re looking for something different for your afternoon snack for yourself or your toddler.
