Everyone loves burger sliders, so why not take your average weeknight dinner to the next level with mini bison burgers? Bison sliders are not just a meal; they're a culinary celebration. Bison meat offers a rich, savory flavor that's a delightful departure from the ordinary. It's lean, yet incredibly flavorful, providing you and your tastebuds with an experience that's both bold and unforgettable.

When should you make bison sliders?

The mini size of bison sliders makes them perfect for grazing and socializing. Your guests can enjoy a variety of flavors without committing to a full-sized burger, making them a go-to choice for events where mingling and sampling are the order of the day (think: tailgating parties, outdoor BBQs, cozy winter get-togethers…the possibilities are endless!).

What’s the best way to cook bison?

Grilling is an excellent method for cooking bison steaks, burgers, and other cuts. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and cook bison slider patties for 3-4 minutes per side, depending on your desired level of doneness. If you don’t feel like firing up the grill, a hot skillet will also do the trick.

How do you keep bison burgers from falling apart?

Bison meat is more delicate than beef, so handle it with care. When forming the burger patties, avoid overworking the meat. Gently shape them into patties without compacting the mixture too much.

And remember: Bison burgers cook faster than beef burgers, so be mindful of the cooking time. Overcooking can lead to dryness, making the burgers more prone to falling apart. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness, aiming for medium-rare to medium.

These mini delights aren’t just a breeze to make. They also pack a punch of lean, mean, protein goodness. Plus, the sweet and soft texture of King's Hawaiian Original Slider Buns is the ideal complement to the robust flavor of bison. The combination of the slightly sweet buns and savory bison creates a harmonious blend that's sure to please every palate.

So, what are you waiting for? Tie up your aprons, put on your chef hats, and start cooking!

1. Slice and Spread the Love

To get started, carefully slice the King's Hawaiian Original Slider Buns in half horizontally using a serrated knife. Then, butter the inside of your top and bottom bun using 3 tbsp of butter. This is the secret to that perfect, golden crispiness.

Before you start toasting, make sure your griddle is nice and hot. A medium-high heat should do the trick. Gently place the buttered buns cut-side down on the preheated griddle. You should hear a satisfying sizzle as they make contact with the heat.

Keep a close eye on your slider buns. We're aiming for a golden brown perfection, not a charcoal catastrophe. It should take about 1-2 minutes, depending on your griddle's heat level.

2. Get the Bison Party Started

In a large bowl, mix your ground bison, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Then, roll up your sleeves and dive in! Use your hands to gently mix the ingredients until they're evenly distributed. Don't overwork the meat; we want those mini patties tender and flavorful.

Take a small portion of the buffalo meat mixture and roll it into a ball. Then, flatten it into a mini patty shape. Form your bison mixture into twelve 3”-wide patties of equal size and thickness to ensure even cooking.

3. Cheese It Up

Fold your slices of American cheese in half. Then, fold them in half again to create 4 even pieces. You’ll be using 2 pieces of cheese per slider to create gooey perfection, creating a flavor layer that perfectly complements the bison.

4. Grill Up Some Magic

Fire up the grill (or heat a skillet) to medium-high heat. Brush the tops and bottoms of your bison patties with olive oil to prevent them from sticking. Then, place those patties on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of juiciness.

About a minute before your patties are done, slap a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt. When your patties are finished cooking, remove them from the grill and let them rest for 2 minutes.

5. Build Your Tower of Tastiness

Spread 1 tsp of mustard on the inside of the top and bottom slider buns (and save some extra for dipping—trust us on this). Then, place the lettuce on the bottom bun, and set your cheesy bison patties on top. Top each slider with sliced onions, add on the top half of the rolls, and secure each slider with a skewer.

The result? A symphony of sweet and savory, soft and crispy. Buttered and toasted King's Hawaiian Original Slider Buns provide the perfect canvas for the bold flavors of your bison patties so you can enjoy a mouthwatering mini feast!
