Oh the drama, the glamour, the special effects… and of course, the outfits! Watching our favorite stars and films to see who takes home the handsome little gold man sure sets the stage for friends and family to get together. So how does anyone do a black-tie event Hawaiian style? It’s easier than you think. All you need is a little Aloha, and if you’re a gracious host, you’re already living the island spirit.

Kicking off your Awards Night Hawaiian style is as simple as inviting all of your ohana over for some delicious food. So long as you plan everything with love, you’re off to the right start! Here are some more tips to hosting an Awards Night get-together to remember:
  1. When friends gather on the islands, the host typically serves buffet style so that everyone can mingle and have time to actually enjoy their guests and party. A potluck keeps things even simpler and stress-free!
  2. Try emailing your invites and include an awards ballot for everyone to fill out with their predictions. You can award the winners at the end of your evening with a DVD of one of the nominated movies.
  3. Encourage everyone to cook their culinary best – try announcing prizes for ‘Best adapted recipe’, ‘Best Appetizer, and overall, ‘Best in Menu’ – all to be voted on by party attendees, of course.
  4. An invite reminder to “dress fabulous” is open for interpretation and usually includes some interesting outfits.
  5. Add an entryway version of your own red carpet to encourage a festive evening. This might include a literal red carpet from the party store, or merely a greeting party assigned to offer silly props of hats, boas, Hawaiian shirts, sequined accessories or wigs.
  6. Capture the night with a photographer friend who poses as paparazzi to encourage posing fun.
And of course, what would a viewing party (the Hawaiian way) be without a spread fit for the stars? Set the stage with Kobe Beef Sliders on KING'S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls like those served at this year’s Governor’s Ball. They’re award-worthy and an excellent entrée for your star-studded evening! As the anticipation builds throughout the evening for ‘Best Picture’, a ready-to-serve-dessert will be ideal. KING'S HAWAIIAN White Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and easy to prep ahead of time to serve at a moment’s notice.
Other menu suggestions for guests to make or partake in include:
Spinach Artichoke Rolls are creamy bites of deliciousness, perfect for getting the party started.
When the night is over and the votes are in for your guest chefs, reward the winners with a fresh lei from your local florist, or present a “golden loaf” of KING'S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread, painted atop with edible gold pastry paint from your local bakery supply store.
The Hawaiian Way is simple and for everyone to enjoy, so don’t worry about getting too fancy. Good food and friends are all you need to share some mutual hospitality, kindness, and generosity. And all of that movie watching can make a crowd plenty hungry, so get ready to fill your stomachs with onolicious food, and your home with plenty of Aloha. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll eat some delicious KING'S HAWAIIAN bread. All of which makes you the real winner.
